Mark Anderson’s broad business, entrepreneurial, and legal experience allow him to view complex legal issues from many angles
Mark began his legal career as an associate specializing in insurance defense law at Morgan, Scalley & Reading in Salt Lake City, UT. After three years of experience, Mark became the municipal underwriter for Boettcher & Co., a securities entity owned by the Kemper Group. In this position, Mark financed the SnowBird gas pipeline and underwrote the selling of bonds to complete the transaction. Following this success, Mark was selected by the Geneva Steel Acquisition Group where he was instrumental in arranging the $50 million leveraged buyout of Geneva Steel as well as arranging for a $5 million line of credit for a metal treatment plant Schaeffer Industries. In addition to these transactions, Mark also arranged financing for Mining Services International’s Cyanco facility in Winnemucca, Nevada.
Following his experiences at Boettcher & Co., Mark became an equity partner with Infobases, then a leading CD-ROM publisher of LDS Church and American history materials. While working with Infobases, Mark brought Ancestry Publishing—the predecessor of one of today’s largest online genealogy networks, Ancestry.com—under the operational control of Infobases.
Infobases became three separate entities in 1997: BookCraft, Ancestry.com, and Western Standard Publishing. As the head of the new Western Standard Publishing entity, Mark quickly forged a relationship with World Book and Britannica encyclopedia and began providing online content to these companies.
While still working as the president of Western Standard Publishing, Mark took on an of-counsel position at Morgan, Minnock, Rice & James from 2001–2006 where he defended insurance companies in a wide variety of cases.
In 2006, Mark returned to direct Western Standard Publishing full-time where he has overseen the company’s rapid expansion and branching out into the fields of data management, professional translation and internet search. This success has netted numerous government contracts, including many with the Department of Defense.
