Biography

Valentina Ortega is a proud first-generation college graduate. Valentina was born in Puebla, Mexico, and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. She earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

While working as a legal secretary, she developed a passion for the law and began her legal education at McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific before transferring back home to William S. Boyd School of Law. She graduated in 2021 with Pro Bono Honors in recognition of her dedication to community service—all while working full-time.

During law school, Valentina demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership, advocacy, and public service. She served as National Chair of the Hispanic National Bar Association’s Law Student Division, President of the Environmental Law Society, and Part-Time Representative to the Student Bar Association. She was recognized for her academic excellence as the Outstanding Student in Paternity/Custody.

Valentina distinguished herself in written advocacy, contributing to her team’s second-place award for the respondent brief at the 24th Uvaldo Herrera National Moot Court Competition. She also gained practical legal experience through her work with One Justice Bus and the UNLV Immigration Clinic, where she provided support.

Before joining Bighorn Law, Valentina served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Cristina D. Silva, the Honorable Maria Gall, and the Honorable Tina Talim. Valentina brings a client-centered approach to her practice and is passionate about using the law to make a meaningful impact.

Outside of work, she enjoys running 5K and 10K races, exploring national parks, reading, and volunteering at community events.
